What's a Kokeshi?

Kokeshi is a Japanese wooden doll of a little girl. This doll usually has the same hair cut :  a straight fringe and a short bob. She also wares a traditional kimono.

When I was a little girl this was my haircut, and my dad loved it....Me not so much, I thought I looked like a boy , and dreamed of long straight, black hair. He used to call me "his little kokeshi".Unfortunately  I didn't got that from my Japanese mom, instead I got my dad's Mexican light brown hair.
